Product Detail

Weather-Resistant covered Line Wire is designed for overhead power distribution applications. The conductor may be concentric-lay stranded and may be supplied in compact-round or non-compacted construction, depending on conductor type and design. The conductor is covered with a black weather-resistant, UV-resistant polyethylene (PE) or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) layer.

1. Application

This standard applies to the materials, constructions, and testing of weather-resistant thermoplastic and cross linked polyethylene covered conductors, rated for 75℃ or 90℃ normal service temperature. These conductors are intended primarily for the distribution of electrical energy under normal conditions of overhead(aerial)installations and service outdoors.

2. Description

The conductors are stranded, circular compressed or uncompressed aluminum, copper, aluminum-alloy, ACSR or ACSR/AW etc., concentrically stranded and covered for Weather or UV resistant with thermoplastic polyethylene (PE) or Cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) in black.

3. Applicable Standards

ICEA S-70-547   Weather-Resistant Polyethylene Covered Conductors.

ASTM B 231     Class AA, A, or B stranded aluminum 1350 conductors (excluding Unilay compressed construction, as stated on the source page).

ASTM B 400  Compact-round stranded aluminum 1350 conductors.

ASTM B 399  Class AA or A stranded aluminum-alloy 6201-T81 conductors.

ASTM B 232  Concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductors, steel-reinforced (ACSR).

ASTM B 549  Concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductors, aluminum-clad steel-reinforced (ACSR/AW).

Standard-number note: The source webpage title and parameter tables identify ICEA S-70-547, while its specifications text also contains “ANSI / ICEA S-70-574.” This inconsistency should be confirmed with the manufacturer. This document uses ICEA S-70-547 based on the product title and parameter tables.

4. Technical Parameter Tables

The following values are transcribed from the product page. Conductor size is shown in kcmil, with AWG equivalents in parentheses where provided. Nominal covering thickness and approximate overall diameter are in millimeters (mm); approximate weight is in kilograms per kilometer (kg/km). Values are approximate and should be confirmed against the manufacturer's current technical datasheet.
